Types of Multi Line Phone Systems

There are basically 3 types of systems you can purchase each have its place and depending on the size of your business would depend on the type you would get.

If your company has more than 40 employees a PBX system would probably be your best solution. These systems are perfect for a small company that needs a powerful multi line phone that comes with all the frills. Most of them come with all the standard features and are small enough to sit on a desk without being in the way.

One of the nice things about a PBX system is the ability in programming it so they can support most any business. The down side of these systems is the price. You will have to pay handsomely for the flexibility you get from them.

For a company that has between 5 to 40 employees a key system would probably be a better choice. With this type of phone system you get a central control called the key system unit or KSU. The KSU will provide you with the features that are not normally available with ordinary phones.

Some of the features the KSU allows are in house phone calls from one office to the other and it also prevents people from picking up a line that is in use. Most of the features you would expect from a multi line phone system come standard with the KSU, but you don’t have the flexibility you get with the PBX system.

The best option for a small business with less than 10 employees would be a KSU less system. These multi line phone systems are much cheaper than the other two. These phones are designed with many of the features you would expect a system to have. The phones hold all the technology to make it work instead of having to connect it to a central operating unit.

With this type of multi line phone system you would have to install it yourself as most vendors don’t supply installation services for them. It is probably the main type of system you would find available to purchase online.
